United Kingdom Invests £11 Million in UNDP to Advance Global Sustainable Development

The Government of the United Kingdom has renewed its partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), investing £11 million (approximately USD 14.7 million) to accelerate progress toward sustainable development around the world.

The renewed support comes at a pivotal time as the global community faces mounting challenges, including climate change, conflict, health crises, and natural disasters. The UK’s core funding will enable UNDP to respond quickly to emergencies, protect lives and livelihoods, and sustain vital development progress.

Aligned with the new UNDP Strategic Plan (2026–2029), the investment will help deliver integrated, scalable solutions that promote human development while safeguarding the planet.

The flexible nature of core funding allows UNDP to adapt rapidly to evolving needs, ensuring assistance reaches the most vulnerable communities—particularly women and girls, who are often disproportionately affected by crises. From Ukraine to Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen, and Haiti, this funding will help preserve development gains and strengthen resilience in some of the world’s most fragile regions.

Core contributions are a critical part of UNDP’s ability to multiply development resources. In 2024, UNDP mobilized $7.4 in additional resources for every dollar of core funding received. These funds also reinforce oversight, accountability, and transparency, ensuring that programmes are implemented efficiently and effectively. UNDP continues to rank among the most transparent international organizations worldwide.

The UK’s renewed investment underscores its steadfast commitment to multilateralism and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, highlighting the power of global cooperation in addressing shared challenges.

UNDP expressed appreciation for the partnership and reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the United Kingdom toward a more equitable, sustainable, and inclusive future where no one is left behind.
