NBCC (India) Limited has laid the foundation stone for a new campus for the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade in Maidangarhi, South Delhi, in a project valued at around Rs 350 crore.
The development is being delivered on a design, engineering, procurement and construction basis by NBCC, the Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise operating under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
The foundation ceremony took place on 5 May 2026 and was led by Dr K.P. Mahadevaswamy, Chairman and Managing Director of NBCC, alongside senior officials, institutional representatives and stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, Dr Mahadevaswamy described the project as a long term investment in the institution’s future growth and international standing.
“This project is not merely an expansion of IIFT’s physical footprint, but a long term investment in the institution’s ability to compete and collaborate on the world stage,” he said.
Modern academic hub planned for South Delhi
The new campus will be developed across a 7.55 acre site near Chhatarpur, with close access to metro links, major road networks and Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Designed as an integrated academic and residential hub, the campus will include almost 54,000 sq m of built up space intended to expand the capabilities of IIFT’s existing facilities.
Plans include a technology enabled Academic Block featuring smart classrooms, lecture theatres, faculty offices, conference rooms and a modern library.
A 1,000 seat auditorium will support conferences, seminars and institutional events, while residential facilities will include accommodation for more than 600 students alongside dining, fitness and recreational amenities. Dedicated housing for faculty members is also included within the scheme.
Sustainability central to design
The project incorporates a range of sustainability measures intended to reduce environmental impact and improve energy efficiency.
Features include LED lighting, solar photovoltaic systems, advanced HVAC technology and passive design strategies aimed at achieving more than 80% daylight utilisation in occupied spaces.
The development will also include rainwater harvesting, water recycling systems, sustainable construction materials and waste management infrastructure.
Additional facilities include two level basement parking for more than 400 vehicles, barrier free access aligned with universal design standards, advanced fire safety systems and landscaped open spaces connected through pedestrian pathways.
NBCC said the project adds to its portfolio of large scale institutional and government infrastructure developments across India. The company’s involvement reflects the scale and significance of the scheme as IIFT expands its academic and research capabilities.
