The African Development Bank (AfDB) has announced the approval of a €26.5 million (US$29.5 million) financing package to support the development of a 62MW solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Sokodé, Togo.
The project, spearheaded by French asset manager Meridiam and French utility Électricité de France (EDF), represents a significant step towards Togo’s ambitious renewable energy targets. Once operational, the Sokodé solar plant will contribute over 25% of the Togolese government’s goal of achieving 200MW of renewable energy capacity by the year 2030.
This investment underscores the AfDB’s commitment to supporting sustainable infrastructure development and promoting the adoption of clean energy solutions across the African continent. The Sokodé solar plant is expected to enhance Togo’s energy security, reduce its reliance on fossil fuels, and contribute to its overall economic development.
