UK Government Hosts Ugandan Green Tech Investment Showcase in London

The UK Government recently hosted an event in Westminster showcasing six innovative Ugandan businesses seeking investment to support sustainable development and combat climate change. Attended by UK Minister for Africa, Lord Collins, and Minister for Climate, Kerry McCarthy, the event aimed to attract investment for these promising ventures.

The Ugandan companies, representing sectors such as waste management, renewable energy, and sustainable agriculture, presented their projects with the goal of securing a combined total of nearly US$83 million in funding. These projects demonstrate the potential for sustainable growth and carbon emission reductions in Uganda.

Lord Collins emphasized the UK Government’s commitment to supporting sustainable economic growth globally and combating climate change. He stated, “Our focus as the UK Government is clear: we want sustainable, mutual economic growth globally and we want to protect climate and nature. The UK’s partnership with CFA Uganda showcases our commitment to tackling climate change, our support for business, and our longstanding partnership with Uganda. I have been hugely impressed by the investment opportunities that these businesses offer and their commitment to cutting carbon emissions. They are truly an incredible advert for Ugandan innovation.”

The event also included a discussion on the enabling environment for investment in Uganda and East Africa, providing a platform for businesses and investors to share their experiences and address the challenges and opportunities in the region.

British High Commissioner to Uganda, Lisa Chesney MBE, emphasized the crucial role of the private sector in achieving climate goals. She stated, “Without the efforts of the private sector, governments will not be able to meet their climate goals.”

The six companies showcased at the event included Agrosahas International Private Limited, an agritech platform utilizing AI and satellite imagery for precision farming; Eco Brixs, recycling plastic waste into PET flakes for use in manufacturing; Ecoplastile Limited, a closed-loop waste management service that recycles waste into sustainable construction materials; Kwanza Infrastructure Group, developing hydroelectric power projects in Eastern Uganda; Protone Energies Limited, providing solar energy battery refurbishment services to extend battery lifespan; and Silverfleet Limited, an electric vehicle taxi fleet solution providing sustainable transportation options.

This event demonstrates the UK Government’s commitment to supporting sustainable development and promoting private sector investment in emerging economies.
