International Collaboration Fuels Tidal Energy Innovation in Wales

Menter Môn Morlais has announced a new collaborative project aimed at developing advanced, more efficient, and durable tidal turbine blades for deployment in high-energy marine environments off the coast of Ynys Môn, Anglesey. The initiative is bolstered by £1 million in funding from the Welsh Government’s Innovate program, underscoring a significant commitment to clean energy and regional economic growth.

This international partnership brings together key players in marine energy and manufacturing. Collaborators include AMRC Cymru, ORE Catapult, and the Morlais project in Wales, alongside Spanish companies Magallanes Renovables and D3 Applied Technologies. This combined expertise is set to accelerate the development of tidal energy technology.

Andy Billcliff, Chief Executive of Menter Môn Morlais, emphasized the broader impact of the project. “This project promotes international collaboration and supports long-term economic benefits for Ynys Môn, in terms of jobs, skills, innovation, and clean energy,” he stated. “It’s a crucial step towards making tidal a reliable, scalable part of our net-zero future in Wales.”
