Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) has announced the provisional selection of 34 projects to receive EUR 297.3 million in grants, aimed at bolstering the nation’s manufacturing capacity for renewable energy and storage equipment. This strategic investment will support the production of critical components, including electrolysers and wind power technology.
The funding, distributed under the Strategic Project for Economic Recovery and Transformation (PERTE) framework, aligns with the REPowerEU Plan and the Net-Zero Industry Act, reinforcing Spain’s commitment to energy transition and industrial decarbonization.
The selected projects encompass a broad range of technologies, with a significant focus on electrolyser and wind power component manufacturing, each accounting for 11 projects. Seven projects will support photovoltaic (PV) technology, four will focus on energy storage, and one will drive heat pump manufacturing.
A substantial portion of the allocated funds, nearly EUR 200 million, will be directed towards Sunwafe’s silicon ingot and wafer production project in Gijon, Asturias. Additionally, solar technology company MCPV has confirmed its selection for a solar module factory project.
The selected projects are geographically diverse, spanning 12 autonomous communities across Spain, including the Basque Country, Castile-La Mancha, Andalusia, Galicia, Castile and Leon, Canary Islands, Catalonia, Navarre, Valencian Community, Asturias, Extremadura, and Madrid. This nationwide distribution underscores the government’s commitment to fostering regional economic development through investments in renewable energy infrastructure
