DEWA Launches EOI for 2GW Solar and 1GW Battery Storage Project in Dubai

Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) has announced a call for expressions of interest (EOI) for the development of a substantial solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) project. This initiative, representing the seventh phase of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, aims to significantly bolster Dubai’s renewable energy capacity.

DEWA is seeking to procure between 1.6GW and 2GW of solar PV capacity, coupled with a 1GW BESS with a six-hour storage duration. The project will be situated within the expansive Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, located approximately 50 kilometers south of Dubai city.

This latest phase follows the successful financial close of the solar park’s sixth phase in February 2024, which was awarded to Masdar for the construction and operation of a 1.6GW solar PV facility. The seventh phase will be commissioned in stages, beginning in August 2027.

This development underscores DEWA’s commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions and reinforces Dubai’s position as a global leader in renewable energy deployment.
