Masdar, TotalEnergies, and EPointZero Partner to Deliver Clean Energy Solutions Across Africa and Asia

Masdar, TotalEnergies, and EPointZero have announced a strategic framework agreement to collaborate on the development and deployment of clean energy solutions across Africa and Asia. This partnership aims to address critical energy access challenges in underserved communities by leveraging the combined expertise of the three companies in renewable energy development.

The initial focus of the collaboration will be on delivering secure and sustainable electricity to communities in Africa, with plans to expand into new clean energy projects in Southeast Asia. Furthermore, TotalEnergies and EPointZero will explore joint opportunities in solar, wind, and energy storage solutions within India. This initiative underscores the partners’ shared commitment to decarbonizing energy systems and promoting environmental sustainability in regions where energy access remains a significant hurdle.

Masdar, a global leader in renewable energy projects headquartered in Abu Dhabi, brings extensive experience in driving the energy transition. TotalEnergies, a French integrated energy company, possesses deep expertise in energy production and distribution. EPointZero contributes specialized knowledge in cutting-edge clean energy technologies. Combining these strengths, the partnership aims to implement impactful and scalable projects that can make a real difference in communities lacking access to reliable electricity.

This agreement builds on previous successful collaborations between Masdar and TotalEnergies, notably in the development of green hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuel. The addition of EPointZero expands the scope of the partnership to include a wider range of clean energy technologies and target regions.

The strategic importance of this collaboration is underscored by the urgent need for reliable and clean energy in developing regions. Access to sustainable energy is fundamental to economic development, improved health outcomes, and enhanced educational opportunities. By focusing on Africa and Asia, the partnership directly addresses areas with significant energy access deficits, striving to provide solutions that are both environmentally responsible and economically viable.

Beyond this partnership, TotalEnergies has demonstrated its commitment to enhancing energy access through substantial investments. In November 2024, TotalEnergies, along with BP, Equinor, and Shell, pledged $500 million to improve access to affordable energy in sub-Saharan Africa, South, and Southeast Asia. This investment supports projects involving domestic solar energy systems, micro-electricity grids, and cleaner cooking fuels, aiming to positively impact the lives of over 2.3 billion people who currently rely on traditional, often polluting, cooking methods.

Masdar has also been proactive in developing advanced renewable energy infrastructure. In January 2025, the company launched a groundbreaking facility in Abu Dhabi designed to produce 1 gigawatt of uninterrupted clean power. This $6 billion project, slated for completion in 2027, is poised to demonstrate the viability of renewable energy as a reliable baseload power source.
