Sungrow Powers Uzbekistan’s First Utility-Scale Energy Storage Project

Sungrow, a global leading inverter and energy storage system (ESS) provider, in partnership with China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC), has successfully commissioned the Lochin 150MW/300MWh energy storage project in Andijan Region, Uzbekistan. This landmark project, featuring Sungrow’s cutting-edge liquid-cooled PowerTitan 2.0 ESS, represents Uzbekistan’s first utility-scale energy storage project and the largest of its kind in Central Asia.

The Lochin project plays a crucial role in supporting Uzbekistan’s ambitious renewable energy goals. The Uzbek government has recently raised its renewable energy target to 40% of the electricity mix by 2030, and is actively transitioning towards a more market-oriented electricity sector. The introduction of energy storage systems like Lochin is essential for enhancing grid stability and mitigating the intermittency of renewable generation.

The 300MWh BESS project will provide a significant boost to grid reliability, delivering 2,190GWh of firm capacity and flexible power annually. Equipped with Sungrow’s PowerTitan 2.0, featuring grid-forming technology, the project will enhance grid stability by providing voltage regulation, frequency response, and oscillation damping services, ensuring a stable and reliable power supply for the Uzbek grid.
