Goldman Sachs Enters Asian Data Center Market with New Japanese Project

Goldman Sachs’ Global Compute Infrastructure (GCI) division has entered the Asian data center market with a significant new project. GCI has formed a joint venture with Asia Pacific Land (APL) to develop a 120MW data center in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan.

Construction on the 15.5-acre site, acquired by APL from the Kitakyushu city government in November 2023, is expected to commence next year. The first phase, delivering 60MW of capacity, is scheduled to become operational in September 2027, following the full connection of the committed power supply.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with APL to launch this significant data center initiative in Japan,” said Scott Peterson, President and CEO of GCI. “This partnership leverages our expertise to establish a cutting-edge data center hub that will serve the evolving needs of our customers across a diverse range of deployment requirements.”

The Kitakyushu project signifies a key milestone for GCI, further solidifying its position as a leading player in the global data center market.
