System One Acquires Pathfinder to Strengthen Critical Infrastructure Project Capabilities

System One has announced the acquisition of Pathfinder, LLC, an independent provider of project management consulting and training services for capital projects across sectors including utilities, energy, mining, and pharmaceuticals.

The move expands System One’s capabilities across its critical infrastructure platform, strengthening its offering in organisational effectiveness, project assurance, professional development, dispute resolution, and project-based talent resourcing.

Pathfinder brings more than 50 years of experience supporting project owners with independent reviews, risk and contracting support, project controls, and best-practice training. Its practitioners—many with over 25 years of hands-on experience—have worked across projects ranging from small-scale initiatives to large, complex capital programmes.

The acquisition reflects growing demand for specialist expertise in delivering infrastructure projects with greater certainty around cost and schedule, particularly as projects increase in scale and complexity.

Greg Lignelli, President and Chief Operating Officer at System One, said:
“Pathfinder’s deep expertise in project assurance, controls, and capital program delivery is highly complementary to System One’s Critical Infrastructure platform. Together, we strengthen our ability to support owners with independent insight, specialized technical resources, and disciplined project execution.”

Maintaining independence while scaling capability

Pathfinder will continue to operate under its existing brand as a System One company, aligning its services within the broader critical infrastructure division. Steve Cabano will remain as President, ensuring continuity in leadership and client delivery.

The structure signals a balance between scale and independence—retaining Pathfinder’s established reputation for impartial advice while enabling broader reach through System One’s platform.

Steve Cabano, President of Pathfinder, said:
“System One provides the scale and capabilities that allow Pathfinder to expand our impact while continuing to deliver the independent, technically grounded guidance our clients rely on. The combination brings together two organizations with complementary strengths, shared values, and a common focus on improving capital project outcomes.”

Responding to rising project complexity

The acquisition comes at a time when infrastructure programmes are facing increasing pressure—from cost volatility and regulatory complexity to heightened scrutiny on delivery performance.

As a result, demand is growing for independent assurance, stronger project controls, and specialist advisory services that can support decision-making across the project lifecycle.

By integrating Pathfinder’s expertise, System One is positioning itself to support owners navigating these challenges, particularly in sectors where project failure carries significant financial and operational risk.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
