Underscoring the United Arab Emirates’ commitment to sustainable agriculture, food security, and climate resilience, the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has signed a new partnership agreement with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to enhance co-financing mechanisms and support high-impact agricultural projects.
The agreement was signed during the World Government Summit by H.E. Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of ADFD, and Mr Álvaro Lario, President of IFAD, in the presence of senior officials from both organisations.
Coordinated financing for greater development impact
The partnership establishes a structured framework for collaboration in the selection and financing of sovereign projects within IFAD’s portfolio. It aligns financing efforts, streamlines evaluation and approval processes, and ensures coordination while respecting the regulatory frameworks and operational policies of both institutions. The objective is to improve resource efficiency and maximise the developmental impact of agricultural investments.
“This agreement with the International Fund for Agricultural Development reflects our ambitious vision to build strong partnerships with leading international financial institutions,” said H.E. Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi. “By integrating efforts and coordinating implementation and evaluation processes, we are supporting sustainable agricultural projects that strengthen value chains, improve quality of life in rural areas, and enhance communities’ resilience to climatic and economic challenges.”
Boosting food security and rural resilience
IFAD President Álvaro Lario highlighted the strategic importance of the collaboration, noting that it creates an advanced model for coordinated investment in rural development. “Through this institutional framework, we will mobilise resources and expertise to drive economic growth, enhance food security, and build climate resilience in rural communities,” he said.
The agreement marks a significant milestone in the long-standing relationship between ADFD and IFAD, opening a new phase of joint action, capacity building, and integrated delivery. Together, the partners aim to strengthen rural economies, support sustainable livelihoods, and ensure communities are better equipped to adapt and thrive in a changing global environment.
