The Association for Project Management has launched a new Nuclear Sector Interest Network, establishing a dedicated global community for professionals involved in the delivery of nuclear programmes.
The network brings together expertise from across the nuclear lifecycle, from new build and decommissioning to advanced technologies and defence-related programmes. It is open to students, early-career practitioners and experienced specialists alike, reflecting the breadth of capability required across the sector.
Nuclear projects are among the most complex and safety-critical programmes in the world. They demand rigorous governance, disciplined risk management and long-term strategic thinking, often spanning decades. The new network aims to support collaboration, shared learning and continuous improvement in this high-stakes environment.
Through webinars, guest lectures, networking events and structured learning sessions, members will examine global developments, emerging innovations and the decision-making challenges unique to nuclear delivery. Cross-sector knowledge exchange will be a central theme, recognising that lessons from infrastructure, defence and energy can strengthen nuclear programme performance.
Manuela Impellizzeri Kemp, APM’s Head of Events and Volunteer Engagement, said: “Nuclear projects demand exceptional levels of rigour, collaboration and long-term thinking. By creating a dedicated community, we’re giving professionals space to share expertise, learn from each other and strengthen delivery capability across this strategically significant sector.”
Discussions will feature leaders managing major live programmes, including Sizewell C, Small Modular Reactor developments and long-term defence agreements such as the trilateral security partnership between Australia, the UK and the US.
As governments increase investment in nuclear energy and related technologies to support energy security and net zero ambitions, the ability to deliver safely, predictably and transparently will remain under scrutiny. By formalising a specialist network, APM is positioning project management capability at the centre of that agenda.
