Representatives of the Moldovan General Inspectorate of Border Police have taken part in the official launch and first Steering Committee meeting of the MigraMI – Migrants Management Enhanced Initiative (ROMD00167), held in Iași, Romania, from 19–21 November 2025. The project is financed through the Interreg VI-A NEXT Romania–Republic of Moldova 2021–2027 programme.
The launch brought together implementation teams from ITPF Iași, the project leader; the Romanian General Inspectorate of Border Police (IGPF), Partner 1; and the General Inspectorate for Migration, Partner 2. Representatives from Romania’s Ministry of Internal Affairs also attended. The event set the foundation for shared objectives focused on combating illegal migration, strengthening cross-border cooperation, and developing a modern, integrated system for managing migrant flows.
During the Steering Committee meeting, held at ITPF Iași headquarters, partners discussed the organisation of joint working teams, activity timelines, coordination mechanisms, procurement planning and the development of a joint action plan to support effective and coordinated migration management.
Through participation in the MigraMI project, the Border Police of the Republic of Moldova aims to reinforce its operational capacity while implementing harmonised cross-border procedures that reduce irregular migration and improve border control efficiency. The initiative is also expected to make border management safer, faster and more people-focused for those undergoing checks.
The total project budget is €657,130.12, with 90% financed through non-reimbursable external funding and 10% provided by the partners. Funding is allocated as follows:
- ITPF Iași – €292,951.23
- IGPF Republic of Moldova – €273,515.13
- IGM Republic of Moldova – €90,663.76
The MigraMI project marks a significant step toward modernising migration management and deepening cooperation between Romania and the Republic of Moldova. It is expected to improve coordinated border procedures, strengthen security and reduce risks linked to illegal migration, contributing to a safer environment for citizens on both sides of the border.
