Johnson Controls has marked the completion of a major multi-year collaboration with Thamrin Nine, Jakarta’s flagship mixed-use development, achieving significant energy reductions and securing BCA Green Mark Platinum certification for two of its towers.
The company delivered chiller plant design and implementation, engineering services and building automation systems for the Autograph Tower – now the tallest building in the Southern Hemisphere at 382.9 metres – and the Luminary Tower. With systems now fully deployed, Johnson Controls will continue to provide service and maintenance to ensure long-term efficiency and reliability.
Smart technologies underpin performance
Thamrin Nine is Johnson Controls’ first chiller plant optimisation project in Indonesia, demonstrating the value of advanced cooling technologies and integrated building management. Key achievements include:
- A 3,100-ton YORK® cooling system in the Autograph Tower, designed to meet the Green Mark Platinum target of below 0.58 kW/TR, reducing energy consumption by up to 30%.
- Three 300 TR high-efficiency YORK chillers in the Luminary Tower, supported by an Energy Management System to optimise cooling and lower energy demand.
- Tailored AHUs and FCUs across commercial, retail, residential and hospitality spaces.
- A Metasys Building Management System providing real-time monitoring and analytics, improving reliability and cutting maintenance costs through early fault detection.
Michael Wiener, Design Director at Thamrin Nine, said: “Our goal was to change the way people live, work and play in Jakarta. Johnson Controls has been an ideal partner in delivering that vision and helping us uphold the highest sustainability standards.”
Wibawa Jati Kusuma, General Manager for Malaysia and Indonesia at Johnson Controls, added: “This partnership shows how digital optimisation and advanced engineering can support greener, smarter cities. We remain committed to helping Thamrin Nine sustain its performance and lead the way for sustainable urban development in Indonesia.”
Supporting sustainable growth across ASEAN
The project reflects Johnson Controls’ growing portfolio of sustainability-led developments in Southeast Asia, including Mactan-Cebu International Airport in the Philippines, Graha CIMB Niaga in Indonesia, and Ng Teng Fong General Hospital in Singapore. Its technologies and delivery models, including Energy Performance Contracting and Cooling-as-a-Service, continue to support national net-zero goals across the region.
As Johnson Controls marks its 140th anniversary this year, the company continues to redefine building performance, helping cities lower emissions, reduce costs and create healthier environments.
