The Adani Group has announced its strategic entry into the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) sector with a landmark 1126 MW / 3530 MWh project, marking one of the world’s largest single-location BESS installations and the largest in India. The project, comprising more than 700 BESS containers, is scheduled for commissioning by March 2026.
This major initiative represents a pivotal step in advancing India’s energy security and accelerating the nation’s transition to a low-carbon future. Once operational, the facility will provide round-the-clock clean electricity, ease peak load pressures, reduce transmission congestion, and enhance grid reliability and efficiency by mitigating solar curtailment.
The BESS project is in advanced stages of deployment at Khavda, home to the world’s largest renewable energy plant. It will utilise cutting-edge lithium-ion technology integrated with advanced energy management systems to ensure optimal performance and long-term reliability. Designed to support peak load management and energy shifting, the system will be a cornerstone of India’s clean energy infrastructure, positioning Khavda as the world’s largest renewable and storage park.

With this launch, Adani joins the ranks of global energy leaders investing in large-scale storage infrastructure, underscoring India’s growing role in the global clean energy transformation.
Scaling for the Future
Following this flagship project, the Adani Group has announced an ambitious expansion plan to deploy an additional 15 GWh of BESS capacity by March 2027, with a long-term target of 50 GWh within the next five years.
This roadmap reflects the Group’s commitment to developing a resilient, future-ready energy ecosystem that supports India’s net-zero goals and global climate objectives. The initiative represents a significant milestone in Adani’s strategy to deliver sustainable, scalable, and affordable clean energy solutions for the decades ahead.
