SANY Group, a global leader in heavy machinery and renewable energy solutions, officially commenced construction in late June on a landmark 10MW photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Zimbabwe. This project, undertaken by a prominent Chinese Mining Company, represents SANY’s first solar energy venture in Zimbabwe and introduces the innovative “EP+F” (Engineering, Procurement, and Financing) business model to the African continent, offering integrated solutions tailored to clients’ financial requirements.
The new facility will leverage SANY’s proprietary 710 high-efficiency PV modules, complemented by advanced inverters and robust support brackets. With a total installed capacity of 10MW, the plant is slated for grid connection by the end of 2025. Upon commissioning, it is projected to generate 18 million kWh annually, significantly alleviating Zimbabwe’s current power deficit, ensuring reliable electricity supply for local industries and communities, and contributing to the broader low-carbon energy transformation across the region.
This pioneering “EP+F” model, a first for SANY Silicon Energy, establishes a scalable and replicable framework for future international renewable energy collaborations. By substantially mitigating financial burdens for customers, this model enhances the accessibility and viability of clean energy adoption in emerging markets. The client has expressed strong confidence in expanding future cooperation with SANY into diverse areas, including microgrids, electric trucks, and EV charging infrastructure.
SANY’s commitment to Africa’s green energy transition extends beyond this new initiative. In late 2024, SANY’s Mining Microgrid Power Project in Zambia successfully connected to the grid after a four-month construction period. This project, Africa’s largest single-unit “solar + storage + diesel” hybrid system, has seen its first phase generate approximately 16 million kWh annually, resulting in over RMB 20 million in electricity cost savings for the client, equating to nearly 30% of their total production expenses. Following this success, SANY has secured three additional microgrid projects in Zambia, further solidifying its contribution to the continent’s energy evolution.
With a 23-year history of engagement in Africa, SANY’s collaboration has evolved from equipment trade to a more comprehensive and sustainable partnership. The company now operates 15 subsidiaries with branches in over 30 countries, supported by 13 trusted dealers, with SANY equipment deployed in more than 50 countries and regions. Demonstrating its dedication to local development, over 50% of SANY’s African workforce is locally hired, contributing to over 5,000 local job opportunities.
