Moroccan Initiatives Partner to Enhance Rural Girls’ Education Through Sanitation

Three prominent Moroccan-led organizations—Women in Tech Morocco, Kiwi Collecte, and Green Watech—have formed a strategic partnership to address a critical barrier to girls’ education in rural Morocco: inadequate sanitation. This collaborative effort aims to improve hygiene and health for students, thereby reducing absenteeism and dropout rates.

The pilot project is specifically targeting Dar Talibate Tassoultante, a rural boarding school for girls where poor wastewater treatment has historically compromised student well-being. The lack of reliable and decent infrastructure at the school has exposed students to increased risks of illness and discomfort, often leading to missed school days and, in many cases, early departure from education.

This entirely female-led initiative will implement an innovative ecological wastewater treatment system at the school. Developed by Green Watech, the system operates off-grid, requires no electricity, and utilizes locally sourced materials and expertise. Its installation will provide a cleaner, safer, and more conducive learning environment for both students and staff.

The campaign is actively encouraging contributions from the Moroccan diaspora, emphasizing that even small donations can significantly impact the lives of girls in Tassoultante.
