The Australian Government has announced that 5B, an Australian solar technology company, is the inaugural recipient of funding under its landmark $1 billion Solar Sunshot program. 5B has been awarded $46 million by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) to significantly scale up the production of its innovative Maverick solar units.
The Maverick solar array, a prefabricated and rapidly deployable photovoltaic (PV) system, is designed for swift onsite installation, boasting speeds up to ten times faster and at a lower cost than conventional solar technologies. This grant will enable 5B to produce and sell 200 megawatts of its Maverick units over the next three years, enough to power more than 40,000 homes.
The funding will also support the ongoing development of 5B’s next-generation low-cost Maverick technology. This investment underscores the Australian Government’s commitment to boosting domestic solar manufacturing capabilities and strengthening the nation’s position in the global renewable energy landscape.
