Shanghai Electric Forges Renewable Energy Partnerships with Masdar and Mawarid in the Middle East

Shanghai Electric, a prominent global energy equipment and technology provider, has announced the signing of significant agreements with Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC (Masdar) and Mawarid Group to jointly advance renewable energy projects in the Middle East. These strategic collaborations underscore Shanghai Electric’s commitment to expanding its presence in the region’s burgeoning clean energy sector.

The agreement with Masdar will see Shanghai Electric undertake the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the 2-gigawatt Sadawi photovoltaic (PV) project. This landmark initiative represents Masdar’s largest solar EPC project globally and is projected to generate over 6 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually. This output is sufficient to power approximately 700,000 households and is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 3 million tonnes per year.

“This agreement marks a new and significant chapter for comprehensive cooperation between Shanghai Electric and Masdar,” stated Wu Lei, Chairman of Shanghai Electric Group. “It is also an important milestone in Shanghai Electric’s strategy to further establish a strong foothold in the Middle East’s dynamic new energy market.”

Separately, Shanghai Electric has also entered into a strategic partnership with Mawarid Group, focusing on wind energy development in Oman. The agreement encompasses the supply of advanced wind turbine technology, the transfer of technical expertise, and the design of a localized manufacturing facility within Oman. This collaboration aims to leverage Oman’s abundant natural wind resources, establish a robust local supply chain, and contribute to the nation’s long-term economic growth.

Wu Lei emphasized the alignment of Oman’s Vision 2040 and Green Hydrogen Strategy with Shanghai Electric’s strategic development objectives. “Through technology licensing and the development of a localized supply chain in collaboration with Mawarid, we aim to drive the implementation of more high-quality renewable energy projects,” he added. “This partnership will contribute significantly to Oman’s energy transformation and help shape a new era of China-Arab energy cooperation.”

These agreements with Masdar and Mawarid signify Shanghai Electric’s strong commitment to fostering sustainable energy development in the Middle East, leveraging its technological expertise and forging strategic alliances to drive the adoption of clean energy solutions.
