Mubadala Energy, the Abu Dhabi-based operator, has commenced the process of securing a large floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel to facilitate the exploitation of its significant gas discoveries in Indonesia’s Andaman Sea.
The company has made two substantial gas finds within the South Andaman production sharing contract: the Layaran discovery in December 2023 and the Tangkulo discovery in May 2024. Mubadala Energy recently announced that these discoveries hold over 8 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of gas in place.
While Mubadala Energy has not yet disclosed an estimated recoverable volume, joint venture partner Harbour Energy, the UK-based independent, has confirmed the discoveries contain multiple Tcf of recoverable gas. The move to secure an FPSO signals a significant step forward in Mubadala Energy’s plans to develop these substantial offshore gas resources in Indonesia.
