The Independent Development Evaluation (IDEV) function of the African Development Bank Group, in collaboration with the Bank’s Country Office in Tanzania, will host a key event on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, from 09:00 AM to 16:30 EAT (GMT +3) at the Delta Hotels by Marriott in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The event, titled “Lessons on investing in health infrastructure,” will focus on disseminating the findings from an IDEV impact evaluation of the Maternal Mortality Reduction Project in Tanzania. Stakeholders will gather to explore critical insights, discuss key lessons learned, and identify effective strategies for aligning future health infrastructure investments with national priorities.
A significant aspect of the event will be the discussion of innovative financing models aimed at sustainably improving maternal and child health outcomes across the region.
The African Development Bank-funded Maternal Mortality Reduction Project was implemented between 2006 and 2015 with the objective of reducing maternal and child mortality rates by enhancing health infrastructure and services in Zanzibar and selected areas of mainland Tanzania. The findings from this comprehensive impact evaluation offer crucial evidence that will inform future projects under the Bank’s Strategy for Quality Health Infrastructure in Africa (SQHIA 2022–2030).
Further details regarding the impact evaluation are available on the IDEV website. Additional information about the Support to Maternal Mortality Reduction Project can be accessed.
