Petrobras is actively evaluating potential opportunities in Argentina, with a focus on leveraging gas resources from the Vaca Muerta region, according to Sylvia dos Anjos, the company’s exploration and production head. Speaking at the CERAWeek conference in Houston, Anjos highlighted the strategic advantage of existing pipeline infrastructure connecting Argentina, Bolivia, and Brazil for gas transportation.
In addition to gas, Petrobras is also considering oil exploration opportunities in Argentina as part of its strategy to replenish reserves through international projects, particularly given the challenges in securing environmental licenses for domestic drilling in Brazil.
The company is making significant strides in its international portfolio. In Colombia, Petrobras is currently developing a plan for its offshore gas discovery, estimated at 6 trillion cubic feet. The project, pending government licensing, is expected to supply approximately 13 million cubic meters of gas per day to Colombia via pipeline.
Petrobras is also advancing its exploration efforts in Africa. The company anticipates drilling exploratory wells in an oil block in Sao Tome and Principe between July and August. Furthermore, drilling operations are planned for an area in South Africa during the second half of the year.
These international initiatives underscore Petrobras’ commitment to diversifying its asset portfolio and securing future energy resources, while navigating the complexities of environmental regulations and market demands.
