Construction of the ambitious 508-kilometer Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project, popularly known as the bullet train, is advancing steadily, with 48.55 percent of the project completed as of January, according to project officials. Larsen & Toubro (L&T), the principal contractor responsible for a significant portion of the infrastructure development, is leveraging cutting-edge technologies to ensure efficiency, precision, and safety in the project’s execution.
L&T, tasked with constructing 466 kilometers of the high-speed rail corridor, encompassing 331 kilometers in Gujarat and 135 kilometers in Maharashtra, is implementing a suite of innovative solutions to expedite progress. The company’s strategic deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) is optimizing various aspects of construction, from resource allocation and scheduling to predictive maintenance and quality control. These technologies are enabling L&T to identify and address potential challenges proactively, minimizing delays and ensuring adherence to stringent project timelines.
Furthermore, L&T is employing advanced survey techniques, including aerial LiDAR and satellite imagery, to gather precise geospatial data for route alignment and terrain analysis. The integration of robotic technologies is also playing a crucial role in enhancing productivity and safety on the construction sites. Of the 331 kilometers of the project within Gujarat, a substantial 318 kilometers, representing 68 percent of the total L&T scope in the state, is slated for handover to subsequent contractors for further development and specialized installations.
