Juniper Green Energy Commissions 100MW Solar Plant in Rajasthan, Powering Bhutan’s Energy Diversification

Juniper Green Energy, a leading Indian renewable power developer, has announced the successful commissioning of a 100MW solar photovoltaic project in Rajasthan, India. This landmark project will supply electricity to the Kingdom of Bhutan, marking a significant step in diversifying Bhutan’s energy portfolio.

The commissioned solar plant, Juniper Green Energy’s inaugural merchant plant, represents a strategic move to address Bhutan’s historical reliance on domestic hydropower and energy imports from India. This initiative directly supports Bhutan’s efforts to enhance energy security and sustainability.

Data from the Observatory of Economic Complexity (OEC) indicates that India was Bhutan’s sole energy import source in 2023, with electricity exports valued at US$6.45 million. The newly operational solar plant will contribute to a more balanced and resilient energy mix for Bhutan, reducing its dependence on single-source imports and fostering regional energy cooperation.
