Evion Group Achieves Key Milestones in Maniry Graphite Project Development in Madagascar

Evion Group NL is making significant strides in advancing its Maniry Graphite Project in Madagascar, securing strong community support and progressing through key regulatory milestones. The company has received further endorsements from the local Maniry community, reaffirming their backing for the project’s development.

A crucial step in the regulatory process is also underway, with the Office of National pour l’Environnement (ONE) scheduled to conduct a site visit in the coming weeks. Evion has reached an agreement with ONE on the final pathway for securing environmental approval, marking a significant step towards project development.

Evion continues its active engagement with the Madagascar government, with ongoing discussions with the Minister of Mines, Dr Olivier Rakotomalala, and his advisors. These discussions have resulted in an agreed development pathway for the Maniry Graphite Project. Managing Director David Round will visit Madagascar next week to meet with the Mines Ministry, as well as representatives from the European Union (EU) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), reflecting growing international interest in Madagascar’s graphite sector.

Furthermore, Evion is in negotiations with the EU regarding its grant application under the Strategic Project (Critical Raw Materials) Program. This initiative aligns with Madagascar’s increasing importance in the global graphite supply chain, as the country is recognized as the largest producer and exporter of graphite outside of China. With graphite demand projected to surge in the coming decade, Evion is well-positioned to capitalize on emerging opportunities.

“Significant progress has been made in Madagascar over the past month as we finalize regulatory matters to secure environmental and mining permits,” said David Round, Evion Group Managing Director. “We are pleased with the Maniry community’s support and are committed to working with them on infrastructure upgrades and providing employment opportunities.”

Key Project Advancements:

  • Mining License Conversion: The Mines Minister has authorized the conversion of Evion’s Exploration Licenses into Mining Licenses for the Maniry Graphite Project.
  • Community Engagement: Evion has reaffirmed its commitment to the Maniry community through infrastructure development, employment opportunities, and support for healthcare and education.
  • Strategic Project Status: Evion has applied for “Strategic Project” status under the EU’s Critical Raw Materials Act, aiming to position Maniry as a key graphite supplier to the EU.

Evion anticipates several upcoming milestones, including environmental approval, mining license conversion, a formal government agreement, and continued engagement with the EU, paving the way for the project’s financing and development.
