Digital Health and Care Innovation Centre Partners with Archangel for Moray Technology Enabled Care Project

Scotland’s Digital Health and Care Innovation Centre (DHI) has selected Glasgow-based Archangel as its development partner for a new Technology Enabled Care (TEC) project in Moray. This collaboration aims to revolutionize health and social care delivery through advanced digital solutions.

The project will focus on developing and implementing a comprehensive toolkit of telehealth, telecare, and ambient monitoring devices, integrated with Archangel’s platform for data collation and analysis. This initiative will be conducted within the Smart Housing Smart Communities living lab, facilitating the testing and evaluation of a proactive and predictive monitoring service pathway within Moray’s health and care services.

This project is a key component of the DHI’s Rural Centre of Excellence, a £5 million research and development program funded by the UK Government as part of the Moray Growth Deal, focusing on integrated health, social care, and housing. Archangel will contribute to research and development activities, potentially enhancing Health and Social Care Moray’s (HSCM) Moray Lifeline Service (MLL), which provides telecare equipment to vulnerable individuals in the region.

A crucial aspect of this partnership is the support it provides for HSCM’s digital migration, addressing the impending analogue switch-off scheduled for January 2027. By transitioning to digital systems, the project will ensure continuity of telecare services and enable the exploration of new data capture methods for early interventions and personalized care.

Archangel’s Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) platform, incorporating AI and machine learning, will allow MLL to utilize a range of sensor-based technologies and devices. This platform will provide care providers with valuable insights into residents’ daily routines, which can be integrated with the Community Connections platform and personal data store for secure data sharing and service access.

“The partnership allows us to showcase cutting-edge data solutions and internet of things technology to unlock the full potential of smart housing,” stated Marie Simpson, DHI Programme Manager. “By addressing fragmented data across health, care, and social housing, we are investing in solutions that integrate services seamlessly and empower individuals with personalized care.”

Lorna Bernard of Moray Council highlighted the project’s role in “future-proofing” care delivery. “DHI and Archangel’s involvement will help to develop, test, and evaluate new solutions to enable delivery of a future-proof digital platform,” Bernard said. “This will transform care for vulnerable people living rurally across Moray, demonstrating that a fully customizable and unobtrusive monitoring system is workable across a huge range of devices and sensors.”
