ABL Secures Contract for Gas Utilization Project in Libya

ABL Group, a leading global marine and engineering consultancy, has secured a significant marine warranty survey (MWS) contract from Saipem for the Bouri Gas Utilization Project (BGUP) in Libya. This prestigious project involves the refurbishment of offshore platforms and facilities for Mellitah Oil & Gas, a consortium formed by the National Oil Corporation of Libya and Eni North Africa.

Under the terms of the contract, ABL will provide comprehensive MWS services for the marine transportation and installation (T&I) operations associated with Saipem’s EPCIC contract. This includes technical reviews and approvals of all project documentation, drawings, and calculations related to the warranted marine operations. ABL will also conduct suitability surveys and other marine assurance deliverables related to the proposed fleet, including any necessary dynamic positioning (DP) trials.

“We are delighted to be appointed to support Saipem on this important project,” said Sergio Leone, ABL’s MWS Project Manager and Business Development Manager. “This project holds significant importance for North Africa, aiming to improve the delivery and production of natural gas and contribute to a reduction in CO2 emissions.”

Located 120 kilometers northwest of Tripoli, the Bouri field is situated in the Mediterranean Sea at water depths ranging from 145 to 183 meters. The project involves the installation of an approximately 5,000-ton gas recovery module (GRM) onto the existing DP4 offshore facility, along with the laying of 28 km of pipelines connecting the DP3, DP4, and Sabratha platforms. The Saipem 7000 semi-submersible crane vessel will execute the main heavy lift operations.

“Whilst the project will be managed from our operational HQ in London, on-site attendances and vessel surveys will be supported by our extensive marine surveyor footprint across Europe and North Africa,” explained Shai Tzucker, Energy Operations Director for ABL in Europe and West Africa. “We also benefit from an established market presence and MWS track-record in neighbouring Egypt.”
