Movar, a leading provider of project delivery solutions, has announced the launch of its cutting-edge Digital Project Management Office (DPMO), designed to revolutionize project controls within the utilities sector. This new and innovative platform leverages AI, Machine Learning, and real-time data to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve decision-making across the project lifecycle.
Developed in collaboration with Severn Trent Water, the Movar DPMO integrates data from various sources, including schedules, costs, milestones, risks, and real-time site updates through technologies like Symterra. This comprehensive data is then analyzed by AI algorithms to generate actionable insights and predictive models, providing project teams with a dynamic and data-driven view of project performance.
“The Movar DPMO empowers project managers with unprecedented visibility and control,” said Ollie Wade, Group CEO at Movar. “By harnessing the power of AI and real-time data, we are transforming how projects are delivered, enabling faster, more efficient, and more cost-effective outcomes.”
Key features of the Movar DPMO include:
Real-time Portfolio Performance Visualization: The platform provides project practitioners with a clear and concise view of performance across the entire program or portfolio, enabling proactive identification of potential bottlenecks and areas requiring immediate attention.
Predictive Analytics: Leveraging AI, the Movar DPMO provides predictive insights into project timelines, budgets, and potential risks, allowing for proactive adjustments and mitigation strategies.
Client-Centric Metrics: The platform is highly customizable, allowing clients to define and prioritize key performance indicators (KPIs) that are most relevant to their specific business needs. For example, in the water industry, the Movar DPMO can prioritize regulatory compliance dates within its performance scoring system.
The DPMO translated over 5 million lines of current and historic data, amassed over five years to create a bespoke central project controls.
Yash Desai, a data analyst specialist on the DPMO project, explains “one of the immediate challenges for the clients when we started, was being able to visualise performance at a programme and portfolio level. Implementation of the new technology immediately allowed project practitioners to see what is happening in real-time as well as providing predictive operational window. As a result, the system provided vital indications across the portfolio of activities, of the projects that required the most urgent attention and the actions that needed to be taken.”
“We were able to tweak the metrics to the specific needs of the client. For example aligning the regulatory compliance dates, including emphasising this as a priority within the RAG scoring process And creating predictive metrics within the dashboards.
These features, combined with the other benefits outlined, have already demonstrated significant value for Severn Trent Water. The company anticipates achieving over 20% in project cost savings across its portfolio through the implementation of the Movar DPMO.
“This transformative approach aligns perfectly with Severn Trent Water’s strategic objectives of sustainability and operational excellence,” added Wade. “By embracing the power of AI and digital technologies, we are setting a new standard for data-driven project management within the utilities sector and beyond.”
Movar’s commitment to innovation has been recognized with the prestigious Project Controls Expo Award for Global Project Controls Innovation of the Year 2024. This award underscores the company’s dedication to developing cutting-edge solutions that address the evolving needs of the project delivery industry.
Shared learnings from the project included:
Automating systems, wherever possible – take source data from existing systems and minimising the use of the excel interface.
Seamless integration with project teams – to better understand what the teams need, and how the technology can help them.
Focus on Talent Development – greater utilisation of practitioner experience augmented by the right training support
Not being afraid to engage with ‘friendly’ data specialists – who can demystify the project data requisites and create the seamless interfaces to encourage real-world usage and data application.
