AECOM, a global leader in infrastructure consulting, has been awarded a significant contract to serve as program manager for the Portal rail extension project in San Francisco. The project, known as the Downtown Rail Extension (DTX), is part of the Transbay Joint Powers Authority’s (TJPA) $12 billion Transbay Program.
As program manager, AECOM will oversee the project’s implementation, including technical assistance, stakeholder engagement, and construction management. The Portal will extend Caltrain service from Fourth and King Streets to the Salesforce Transit Center, providing a vital regional rail connection.

The Portal will be constructed using cut-and-cover and mined tunneling methods, with an underground station at Fourth and Townsend Streets. The project will also involve utility relocation, track and systems work, and integration with existing rail systems.

The Portal is expected to be completed in [Year] and will serve as a key regional rail connection, accommodating an average ridership of 90,000 daily passengers.
